Community life is the sharing of common values, common experiences. Ananda Communities are based in the universal spiritual values espoused by Paramhansa Yogananda and Swami Kriyananda. The Living Joy Center is the heart of the Ananda Community of Portland. Daily group meditations, shared meals, celebrations, classes, entertainment, meeting – in fact nearly every Community activity involves the Living Joy Center in some way. Community life requires the ongoing support of a wide group of individuals who coordinate and facilitate the endless number of acitivities central to daily life. From the mundane issues of keeping the housing units beautiful and functioning to celebrations, service days, group meals, daily meditations, landscaping and gardening – the list is as varied as the needs of the residents, the Community Managers help make sure it all goes smoothly.

Vajra Johnson is the overall manager of Ananda Community of Portland, and a Lightbearer with Ananda Portland. Property maintenance and development, problem solving, building a sense of community among residents, offering guidance and friendship – Vajra does it all with a smile. If you are looking into life at Ananda Portland Community, you will, at some point, find yourself having a joyful and inspiring conversation with Vajra. Vajra has been involved with, and serving in, Ananda since the 1970s.
Pavani Johnson is the assistant Community Manager, and makes it possible for Vajra to do his job. Involved in the planning of Community life, she also helps with keeping the details in place and moving along. Her endless efforts bring beauty and clarity to Ananda Portland.
Pavani also has the blessing of coordinating the Living Joy Center, the social and spiritual hub of Ananda Community of Portland.
