Padma and HrimanNayaswamis Hriman and Padma are the Spiritual Directors of Ananda Washington and pioneer members of Ananda. We are happy to have them in Portland for the weekend.

Our personalities take on a complexity rivaled only by nature’s own secrets. But Patanjali, in the now famous scripture of the Yoga Sutras, outlines the steps we can take to re-trace our journey from psychological complexity to the purity of our soul’s eternal nature.
In this two hour workshop, Nayaswami Hriman from Ananda Seattle will use the sutras as focal points for meditation. Each sutra is a knot point which, when unraveled by the laser light of intuition, reveals its wisdom and its practicality. These, collectively, are really a GPS to freedom.
The sutras are succinct and clinical and sometimes, therefore, deceptively simple!
In this workshop we will explore:
  • What is the most important sutra?
  • Calmness vs indifference
  • Are the Yoga Sutras a specific form of yoga?
  • How can we tell if we are making spiritual progress?
  • Let’s discuss things that happen in our meditations: the five astral senses, e.g.
  • What are the higher states of awareness revealed in the Sutras?
  • What are common obstacles to spiritual awakening?
  • Yamas and Niyamas: simple or complex?
  • Why do the Sutras mention Kriya Yoga?
  • What is meant by the term “Ashtanga?” Eight-fold limbs? The Tree of Life?
